Crafty Father John

Prompted by a cartoon I saw on Facebook, and by the multitude of inappropriate status updates I’ve seen people post online.

One early Sunday morning in the church confession box
There was a crafty Father who could out sly the fox
He said confess your sins my child together we will pray
And in this booth tell only truth for God hears what you say

Oh Father John, although I try, I do have impure thoughts
I thought a lady ugly for upon her face were warts
I'm digging deep here Father John for all the wrongs I've made
I bought some coffee yesterday but didn't buy fair trade
No I didn't buy fair trade!

One early Sunday morning in the church confession box
There was a crafty Father who could out sly the fox
He said confess your sins my child
together we will pray
And in this booth tell only truth for God hears what you say

Oh Father John I must repent for this was truly wrong
One day when late for church I almost sped, oh Father John
Will you forgive my wicked ways
though there are only few
I know I must repent and be as pure at heart as you
Oh as pure at heart as you

Oh young'en how you sadden me
The truths you did not tell
You know the Devil sees it all and saves your place in hell
Be on your way said Father John
I've nothing left to say
For I was on to your Facebook page
before you came to pray

One early Sunday morning in the church confession box
There was a crafty Father who could out sly the fox
He said confess your sins my child together we will pray
For in this booth tell only truth
God sees your Facebook page!
